Dark-eyed Junco is a small grayish American Sparrow and one of the best known species of junco genus of birds. They are widespread across most of the temperate North America and during summer, they can be found far away into the Arctics. Like their close relatives Fox Sparrow, dark-eyed junco is a much variable species. With their plain patterns, dark hood and white outer tail feathers, they can be easily distinguished from other similar varieties. Dark-eyed Juncos’ breeding habitats are in coniferous or mixed forests throughout North America.

Dark-eyed Junco is a medium-sized sparrow. Adult junco has a grey head, neck and chest, grey or brown wings and back, pale pinkish bill and white belly. Males birds have darker and more conspicuous markings than the females. Their song is a musical ?trill? with a series of hard and short twittering. They forage on grounds and eat insects and seeds. They usually make a cup-shaped nest by making a depression in the ground and sometimes in the tree branches. Size of Dark-eyed Junco: Weight 18-30 grams, Length 14-16 cm and Wingspan 18-25 cm.
