Herring Gull is a large gull that is one of the most abundant and well-known gulls along the shores of Asia, Western Europe and North America. Herring birds of colder regions migrate further south in winter seasons. However, many birds are permanent residents on the lower Great Lakes, on the east coast of North America and on the shores of North Sea. They can also be found abundantly in inland areas, garbage dumps and city areas.

Herring gull is a medium to large and the most basic seagull with white head and underparts, light grey back, black wing tips with white spots (known as mirrors) and a yellow bill with red spot near the tip. Their legs are normally pink and sometimes yellowish in some of the species. Juveniles are mainly brown with darker streaks and with dark bill and eyes. They make variety of loud, bugle-like, alarm type or laughing calls, which is well-known in the entire Northern Hemisphere. They are omnivorous birds and feed by scavenging from garbage dumps, landfill sites and sewage overflows. Size of Herring Gull:Weight 800-1250 grams, Length 55-65 cm and Wingspan 136-146 cm.
