House Finch is a medium-sized finch that can be spotted abundantly in the cities, suburbs, parking lots, roadsides and gardens. Most of the house finches are permanent residents. Their common breeding habitats are urban, suburban and semi-open areas in the East as well West from Southern Canada to Northern Florida. Throughout the year, house finches can be found visiting bird feeders at various locations in the cities.

Adult male birds have a long square-tipped brown tail. They have brown colored back with a deep grey shading on the wing feathers. Their bill is short and thick with top rounded edge. Head, neck and shoulders are reddish, red color may sometimes extend down to stomach and the back. Intensity of colors in male birds varies with the season, color being often derived from the berries and fruits of its diet. Their call is a rapid, cheery warble or variety of chirps. They forage on the grounds and in vegetation eating grains, seeds and berries and small insects. Size of House Finch:Weight 16-29 grams, Length 13-14 cm and Wingspan 20-25 cm.
