Laughing Gull is a medium sized gull from North and South America, which can be found abundantly along the southern Atlantic Coasts and the Gulf of Mexico. They rarely wander away from coastal areas but occasionally they may be spotted among human habited areas including parking lots and dumps. Laughing gull name seems to have been derived from the similarity of their call with human laugh.

With a length of 38-40 cm and a wingspan of 100-110 cm, it is easy to identify laughing gulls. They are black slate grey birds with white underparts, black wingtips, and black head in the breeding seasons. Their wings darker than the wings of similarly sized other gulls. They have along and red colored bill. Their breeding habitats are in the coastal marshes and ponds along the Atlantic Coast of North America, the Caribbean and northern South America. Northern species migrate to southern areas during winter. They nestle in large nests made from grasses and on the ground. Laughing gulls are usually omnivores like most other gulls, often scavenging and catching small preys.
